Bryn Athyn Church School
Huntingdon Valley, PA
Klover is proud to be part of this new, one-story, 110,000 square foot K-8 school project with Whiting Turner. The Bryn Athyn Church School is a private Christian school from preschool through eighth grade that was constructed in 1954 in Huntingdon Valley, PA. The old facility consisted of six additions since the first building was erected with the last significant building project being completed over 30 years ago. After extensive assessment, it was decided that full replacement of the old facility was more cost effective and safer in the long term. The new facility will provide separate welcoming entrances for the church wing and the school with new academic and social spaces throughout including a gymnasium. The church wing will include the church office, society kitchen, and indoor and outdoor gathering spaces. The new building has increased the square footage by about 25% from the previous building.
Klover worked with Whiting Turner and the architect/engineer Metcalfe Architecture and Design to design, prefabricate, and install all exterior wall panels which allowed for greater flexibility and faster construction schedule. This was a strategic shift made from the original field framing plan that allowed the project to stay on track despite earlier setbacks. Use of the prefabricated, metal wall panels reduced the time to complete the building’s exterior framing by about 55 days compared to traditional stick-built construction. Klover prefabricated 48,000 square feet of exterior walls which were assembled into 242 individual panels. These panels were shipped to the jobsite via twelve 53-foot trailers coordinated for just in time delivery that matched the sequence of the project schedule.
