Klover’s President on Building Data Center Enclosures Off-Site
The way data centers are designed and constructed is changing rapidly as owners, developers and contractors face increasing pressure to deliver mission-critical infrastructure faster while navigating skilled labor shortages, complex coordination requirements and aggressive schedules. Klover is proud to be part of that conversation and to share how prefabrication, BIM coordination and experienced field construction teams are helping create a more predictable approach to data center construction.
Klover President and Partner Kristian Fields was recently featured by Global Data Center Hub in an article written by Obinna Isiadinso examining how Klover is approaching data center enclosures, off-site construction and the growing need for certainty across mission-critical projects.
The article provides an in-depth look at Klover’s work on hyperscale data center projects in Northern Virginia and a major data center project in Eastern Pennsylvania, where the company is combining BIM coordination, in-house manufacturing, prefabricated enclosure systems and skilled field carpentry to move more construction into a controlled environment before materials and assemblies reach the jobsite.
In Eastern Pennsylvania, Klover is currently prefabricating approximately 200,000 square feet of interior wall panels that will serve as electrical room enclosures. The 24-foot-by-12-foot panels leave Klover’s prefabrication facility with framing and the first layer of fire-treated gypsum board already installed, allowing a significant portion of the construction process to take place before the assemblies arrive in the field.
The Global Data Center Hub article also explores Klover’s exterior enclosure work on hyperscale facilities in Northern Virginia, where BIM and 3D modeling are used to coordinate assemblies before manufacturing begins. Steel studs are roll-formed to precise dimensions, panels can be assembled with weather barriers already installed and some of the exterior panels have grown to more than 45 feet tall, requiring structural steel to accommodate their scale.
Beyond prefabrication, the article addresses one of the most important issues facing data center construction today: the availability of skilled craft labor. Klover’s approach combines off-site manufacturing with experienced field carpenters, installation crews and site leadership, allowing work to be strategically distributed between the manufacturing facility and the jobsite rather than relying entirely on one or the other.
The conversation also reinforces the importance of engaging prefabrication partners early. Data center enclosure systems require extensive coordination with architectural, structural and other building systems, making BIM and early design collaboration essential to successful manufacturing and installation. By bringing Klover into the process earlier, teams can coordinate assemblies before production, plan logistics and installation requirements and identify potential conflicts while they can still be resolved digitally.
This integrated approach is central to how Klover views the future of mission-critical construction. BIM, prefabrication, manufacturing and field carpentry are not separate capabilities operating independently. Together, they create a construction strategy designed to reduce onsite labor demands, improve coordination, accelerate enclosure schedules and bring greater predictability to increasingly complex data center projects.
We sincerely thank Global Data Center Hub and Obinna Isiadinso for taking the time to speak with Kristian and for giving Klover the opportunity to share our perspective on the future of data center construction. Conversations like these are important as the industry looks for new ways to address labor constraints, increase construction capacity and deliver the infrastructure required to support continued growth in artificial intelligence, cloud computing and digital services.
Below, we are proud to share the article exactly as it originally appeared in Global Data Center Hub.
